FINANCING
TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
The GTMO organised
a seminar in Barcelona on 29 and 30 October 1998 on "Financing Transport
Infrastructure in the Mediterranean".
The purpose of
the seminar was, in particular:
-
to share experiences
on transport infrastructure financing in Europe and in Mediterranean countries;
-
to analyse the various
means of infrastructure financing by multilateral financial bodies;
-
to examine the preconditions
necessary to encourage private sector involvement; and
-
to study the case
of Inframed projects.
Representatives
from the Mediterranean countries of the European Union (France, Greece,
Italy, Portugal and Spain) and from the third-party Mediterranean countries
(Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey
and the Palestinian Authority), from multilateral financial institutions
(European Investment Bank and World Bank) and from international organisations
(European Commission, CEE/UN and CEMT), among others, took part in this
restricted seminar.
