CETMO has pioneered Regional Infrastructure Planning of the Mediterranean, successfully bringing together the region’s ministries of transport and other international entities to undertake that concerted effort.
With over 42 projects and studies and 45 workshops and conferences on Regional Planning, CETMO offers leading knowledge on existing and planned Mediterranean infrastructure, as well as the priorities for its development.

DEFINING THE MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT NETWORK IN WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN

CETMO, in concertation with the GTMO 5+5 ministries, defines and updates the Multimodal Transport Network of the countries of the Western Mediterranean. This network corresponds in the EU countries to the TEN-T; the Maghreb countries’ definition follows the same methodology, taking into account their specificities.
This study is presented according to a globally accepted standard for the development of multi modal corridors, including main nodes interconnection, the comprehensive network, providing accessibility to all territories.

CETMO signed a collaboration agreement with the Moroccan and Spanish public societies, SNED and SECEGSA respectively, to promote the future fixed link between the two shores of the Mediterranean through the Gibraltar Strait, by way of a series of studies on the socioeconomic parameters and transport flows related to the exchanges between South Europe and North Africa, especially those around the Gibraltar Strait.

The role of container shipping management in promoting regional integration and the global positioning of the Western Mediterranean is strategic.
CETMO conducted a study on the main trends in container shipping on a global scale and its impact on the Western Mediterranean space, accompanied by quantitative and qualitative analysis. It was concluded that there is a high importance of implementing cooperation strategies and common policies between ports and stakeholders to contribute to the economic development.
