Our organization was created in 1985 with the UN mandate, to promote the advancement of transport and logistics in the Mediterranean Region. Since its inception CETMO has enabled international policy making and regional planning cooperation through facilitation, knowledge transfer and capacity support.
In 1997, we became the Technical Secretariat of GTMO 5+5, the Group of Western Mediterranean Transport Ministers, the international body for transport policy making and regional planning cooperation among France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. CETMO is responsible for the implementation of GTMO’s mandates, the coordination of the Ministries’ group of experts and the execution of bi-annual work programs.
CETMO facilitates policy agenda definition and provides analysis and technical support to GTMO 5+5, and also to EU’s and UfM (Union for the Mediterranean) large programs, such as the Trans-Maghreb Multimodal Corridor Action Plan, Motorways of the Sea, Logismed, TEN-T, and the EuroMed Transport Forum (FET).
